With all of the social media sites out there, there seems to be an unlimited amount of networking opportunities, with Facebook and Twitter leading the parade. But lately I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about the relative newcomer, Pinterest. Now, I’m a pretty frequent Facebook user, an occasional Twitter participant, and I even network on LinkedIn regularly, but Pinterest is one I’d been resisting for several months (after all, do I really need to keep up with another social outlet?), until now. I read an article recently that claims a new study found that “Pinterest drives more referral traffic than Google+,” and is ”nearly on par with Twitter”. Really? I thought Pinterest was a place to find and share creative craft ideas for people with time and motivation (note that I used the word “resisting” earlier…yes, I am one of those people. What? So I enjoy baking a tasty dessert and sewing a quilt once in a while!). Turns out Pinterest is more than that, another article claiming that it is ”driving increasingly significant amounts of traffic to retailers’ websites”. Huh. As I anxiously await an invitation to join Pinterest (yeah, you can’t just join, you have to sign up to be invited to join…) I wonder what kind of inspiration awaits me, and whether it really will “prove itself as a potential sales channel”.
Do you Pinterest? If so, what has it done for your marketing and/or social network? If not, what is your preferred online networking tool?
